Hi, my name is Amarea Najia Lee. I graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Diego State in May of 2025. Although I was a few years into my studies, it wasn’t until my senior year that I truly recognized where the foundation for my passion lay.

Here is a bit of backstory about how I got here.

The root of all my interests has always been art. Whether it’s writing, drawing, or dancing, I have made a hobby out of it all. I am someone who constantly cycles through new hobbies, often finding it hard to stick with just one single skill. Because of this, I never really knew what career path I ultimately wanted to pursue.

When I told my family I was contemplating switching my major to journalism, they said that they always knew I would be a writer. For me, that is when I felt like it all made sense.

After making the final decision to switch my major from marketing to journalism during my sophomore year, I quickly felt a sense of motivation and comfort in my new classes. My ultimate favorite pastimes include reading, writing, and media consumption which is what I believe made the transition into my new courses feel seamless.

Speaking from a broad perspective, media has come a long way. For example, print media has undeniably been taken over by digital media forms. Because of technological advancements, new media is able to reach a much more global scale instantaneously.

My understanding of media and its global effect has helped me to identify my purpose and the impact I would like to make today.

My passion lies in reshaping the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle industries to be more diverse and intersectional. I believe that there are many aspects in which media today can effectively demonstrate the value in diversity. While I do understand that we have come a long way in terms of inclusion, there are still many areas where representation is lacking.

So here I am today, beginning my journey as a blogger who aims to bring inclusivity back to forefront of media. Through a journalistic lens, I will analyze current issues and trends so that I can contribute to fostering a more representative industry.
